What an XODoc is

An XODoc is the smart version of your document: XOsign has read it, so it knows the parties, the dates, the amounts and the blanks. Making it editable is a separate, opt-in step — your original is never changed.

1-minute read

When you upload something, XOsign reads it end to end. What comes out the other side is an XODoc: the same document, but understood. It knows who the parties are, which dates and amounts matter, and where the blanks are.

Smart first, editable only if you ask

Being smart and being editable are two different things, and XOsign keeps them apart on purpose. Every document becomes smart. Turning it into something you can retype is a separate step you choose — look for “Make this document editable”.

The reason is honesty about layout. Rebuilding a complicated form so its text can be edited re-flows it, and a re-flowed page can look different from the one you scanned. Most people don’t need that; they need to fill the blanks and sign. So editing is offered, not imposed.

Your original is kept, always

  • The file you uploaded is stored unchanged and stays reachable from the document.
  • Filling blanks and signing work on the original’s own layout — nothing is re-flowed to do that.
  • If an editable copy does look different, XOsign says so on the page and offers to show you the original side by side.

Reading a document spends pages from your monthly allowance — one per page. After that, the AI features your plan includes are free to use on it. See Plans and AI pages.
